The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine by Ilan Pappé
5.0
There are so many times when I had to put the book down due to the sheer amount of rage at the injustices done against the Palestinian people. I am really grateful for Illan Pappe's impeccable scholarship and research on this topic (look at the footnotes! and the inclusion of oral history as not to ignore and to even acknowledge the power imbalance in official memories) and the care he put in to shed the light on the unfathomably evil ways the world has treated the people of Palestine.
The book was written in 2006 and in its final chapters, especially the one concerning the Nakba denial and the way Israel viewed Palestinians as "demographic danger" became even more harrowing and distraught given the on-going genocide in the Gaza Strip, which has, at the moment of this review, kills more than 15,000 children, with an even further 21,000 children still lost in the rubbles. Man-made starvation runs rampant in Gaza, especially in Northern Gaza because of the inhumane siege that Israel imposed on them and the uselessness of the Western world, putting more than 2 million people at risk of starvation. Meanwhile, the US and Western governments once again aid and abet the Zionist regime's genocide.
No amount of words can express my feelings of fury, pain, and devastation but I shall end this review with a note of hope. We will see a free Palestine in our lifetime.
