2.5 stars, rounded up to 3 - Okay, I have to say it…I don’t think that Toby and Blaise’s romance lived up to the hype. I’m likely in the minority here, but for a relationship that was teased so much over the course of multiple books, I really expected something incredible. It had a lot of potential to be amazing and it just didn’t do it for me.

Toby and Blaise together wasn’t really the issue - their relationship was entertaining and made my heart ache for poor Blaise but smile as he started to come into himself again with Toby’s help. Their dynamic was intense, but I loved the quiet moments between them most, especially Toby going out of his way to help Blaise be able to connect with Bailey and make a real friend after a terrible accident. They really did work well together but I was DYING for them to just have an honest conversation, to be open about their fears and concerns and feelings. For two immortal beings, they really did like to dance around a conversation to the detriment of them actually spending time together.

My biggest gripe with this story is that it basically runs through the events in Luck of the Devil, Patience and Justice but from Toby and Blaise’s POVs, meaning you don’t get very much explanation for why things happen and it feels really disjointed. To me, this book definitely doesn’t work as a standalone because of that. I wish there was more fleshed out about what was going on between the two of them throughout the other stories, that we didn’t just see simplified versions of the other events, but got more moments like the battle at the end of Luck, where we see what happened with Toby and Blaise when they were topside. This whole story just left me wanting more of a story between these two, more moments that weren’t just them in the bedroom…just more.

I am excited to see where Danny’s story takes us, can’t wait for more about the Seraphim and am keeping my fingers crossed for more about Tyler in the future too!
