The Walking Dead: The Alien by Brian K. Vaughan

3.0

I didn't realize that BKV had written a Walking Dead one shot, so I kind of felt like I'd found a lost gem when I stumbled across it. Unfortunately, it's more like a lost piece of trivia. It's not bad. The writing is as good as you'd expect. He does a pretty decent job of getting personalities across in a short amount of time, bizarre sexualization of the female lead not withstanding.

The ending though kind of made the whole thing feel kind of pointless and inconsequential. The final reveal that the main character was related to Rick, a revelation so irrelevant to the scene that the female lead seems confused about why she's being told it, further served to make the story feel more like fodder for walking dead trivia nights than an actual story of consequence.
