The first section was a bit slow, and I couldn't get invested in any of the characters. I could have done without most of the Savvas/Aphroditi/Markos storylines in exchange for a deeper dive into the historical context of Cyprus. The description of the historical events, up to and including the Turkish invasion, is well written but then the aftermath is largely untouched. I was also disappointed with how shallow the characters were. There were so many perspectives that it didn't feel like any of them were able to be fully explored.
