Princess in Training by Meg Cabot

3.0

I am still waiting for the series to evolve. Six books in and I thought we would've gotten away from the same old petty high school troubles that the series started with. But Mia (despite being 15 now AND dating a freshman in college ?????? huh ???) is basically the exact same clueless person she was before she found out she was a princess. Her relationship with Michael only makes less sense as time goes on—he gets older and is still his level-headed, competent self, and Mia is a literal child who, again, is dating a COLLEGE boy yet calls sex "doing it" (at least a hundred times in the book) and is overall super immature about her relationship. For example, not recognizing or even sharing Michael's interest in getting her alone while her parents are out of town and deciding to have a sleepover with her friends instead. ?????????

I'm really confused about what age group this series is for because there's ~slightly more mature~ content in this one that isn't preteen appropriate but Mia and her friends have always acted like preteens so I thought the series was catering to that age group... I wouldn't recommend this book to preteens OR teenagers so I'm just like huh ????

But I am not either of those, so imma keep listening ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
