TW: Animal death

I remember my summers as a child, spent in the sunny countryside, drawing, reading, making weird collections of things I found in nature and just enjoying my time away from our usual house and all that entailed. Thus, summertime has always put some very nostalgic sunglasses on me, and The Great Outdoors managed to capture this feeling perfectly. Catherine Meurisse recounts her childhood spent in a rebuilt farmhouse with her plant-cutting-stealing parents, her bookish sister, their cat, chickens and her very own Versailles-esque garden gnome in a charming and heartfelt manner. If you are ever looking for a failsafe gift to give someone (maybe your mother that loves gardening or someone who considers childhood summers to have been the best part of their life), I would definitely say that this is it.
Plus: I would think it's quite accessible even to those who do not enjoy reading comics.
