Reason to Breathe by Rebecca Donovan
4.0
What did I think? Let's see...
First of all let's talk about Carol. She was a crazy, psychotic, homicidal bitch. What I still don't understand though, is why she hated Emma that much. I mean, seriously, a person has to have a reason for abusing and hurting someone else. Every time something happen all I could think was, why? what the hell is wrong with this woman? At first I thought that the book would eventually explain it, so I just kept reading. But the explanation never came, and so I guess the answer is that Carol was simply crazy.
And now, to the good parts. I absolutely adored Evan. He's definitely one of the best book boyfriends I've read about. He was just so sweet, and funny and perfect! It's so not fair that guys like that only exist in fiction. I also loved his mother! She was just great and I can't wait to read more about her.
Sara was also wonderful, always there to support Emma no matter what. A true BFF.
I still don't know how I feel about Emma's mom, I don't have enough info to develop an opinion yet. I guess I'll have to see if she comes back in the second book.
Finally, a quick comment on spelling. Why is it always so hard for so many writers to use 'your' and 'you're' correctly? Just stop and ask yourself if it'd be written correctly without the contraction. If a non-native speaker can tell when to use one form or the other, then someone who's been speaking the language their whole lives should have no problem doing it as well! Because of this and not-really-justified Carol thing, I'll give the story 4 stars, even though the book really was amazing.
