This book kind of reminded me of Emily Henry’s, “Book Lovers” in the sense that in this book, the two main characters, Evie and Carter were both in the same industry of being agents in Hollywood and in a way were competing with each other for the sake of their jobs. This story was set against the backdrop of Los Angeles, the Hollywood/ film industry, the high demands of being an agent, humor, romance, and even more. 

Evie was married to her job as an agent, always focused on work, maintaining her clients, and enjoying the career she had. Carter also shared the sentiment towards his job as well, and one thing (out of many) that they both shared was, they were single and their friends wanted to set them up with each other. The way Evie and Carter met at Steph and Michael’s party was kind of cute, especially with their unplanned “Harry Potter” costumes. The conversation between Evie and Carter was so smooth and natural, it never felt forced which made it all the more enjoyable for me to read. 

One of the many things I loved about this book was that it was set in Los Angeles, Hollywood to be specific and how Evie and Carter went about their jobs as agents. Anytime I see a story that involves the entertainment industry, I’m instantly intrigued! So hearing how Evie was always fascinated by the industry from a young age, her parents having worked around sets for majority of their own careers, it was no surprise for Evie what she wanted to do in life. 

I loved Evie’s personality and she had a good balance of being humorous, lovable, kind, determined, and hardworking. Carter was equally lovable and from the description of him and his personality, I was smitten by his nerdy yet sweet demeanor. Something about Carter just spoke to me and I was immediately like, “umm yes I would very much like to date you” *insert winking face here haha. As I mentioned earlier, Evie and Carter’s chemistry was great, it was all smooth sailing for them and after their first date not only was I excited for them but the little bit of spice was great too. Of course after their early bliss was just starting, the main obstacle which essentially dove Evie and Carter to fight for their jobs drove a wedge in their blooming romance. Suddenly all the lighthearted romance that Evie and Carter had became a battle of small pranks that slowly escalated and definitely caused some animosity between them.

Amidst the pranks and tension between Evie and Carter, eventually they were able to call a truce and my anxiety went down thankfully. If anything aside from the one little spicy hookup during the Vanity Fair shoot, the moment during the Big Bear trip really brought Carter and Evie together both in the passionate and romantic sense. In a way it felt like everything came together perfectly finally. Until stupid Brad kept being a major a-hole to Evie. Aside from the humor and romance, a big thing that was address in the story was the topic of women being undermined or treated wrongly in the workplace as seen by Brad constantly treating Evie with backhanded comments, being sexist, and overall being a horrible human being. The good thing about Carter was, through out the story was that he realized the struggles that Evie dealt with in her line of work and more specifically how Brad treated Evie unfairly. In other words, I love a man who is aware of his surroundings, the unfairness women are dealt with, and actively tries to do better, Carter was the man.
