Middle of the Night by Riley Sager

3.75

Wow where do I even begin? Middle of the night is a slow burn for sure, which i didn’t mind too much! The beginning hooked me right away and I couldn’t stop reading for the first 50 pages. It started to slow down and get just a tiny bit repetitive for me towards the middle but nonetheless I was still actively engaged in the story & making my way through it without any real complaints!

There are so many red herrings & different point of views that it was starting to get a little muddled for me. Regardless I still got fooled quite a bit lmao. This is definitely on the tamer side in comparison to Sager’s other thrillers. I had really high hopes for this to be a 5 star book & it felt like it would’ve been in the beginning but as the story progressed I felt myself being a little confused and not the biggest fan of the direction the story was going? Or where I thought the story was going at least.

The plot takes you in multiple different directions to mess with you and I didn’t like that very much because it felt like it was dragging more than anything and the things that were happening just didn’t make sense to me. This story felt disjointed to me. I don’t think this one will be sticking with me over time. Overall this isn’t one my favorites by sager but I will continue to pick up and read everything this man releases because I can never say no to his captivating writing style & his gripping storylines!
