Made You Up by Francesca Zappia
5.0
I LOVED THIS BOOK! DEFINETELY FAVOURITE OF THE YEAR!
Okay, sorry I'll stop freaking out and explain. ;)
This book is an amazing book because it deals with so many important topics and themes and it made me cry so hard.
Made You Up tells the story of a high school senior fighting tooth and nail to survive her daily life, suffering from schizophrenia Alex is unable to tell the difference from real life and delusion.
As Alex herself puts it, she envies people for being able to tell the difference between a dream and real life. Reality is not obvious for Alex, but she is ready for a fresh start when she starts at a new school.
Making friends and falling in love was not part of her master plan of surviving long enough to go to college.
Alex is used to being crazy and lonely, so what will happen when she suddenly is living a "normal" teenage life. No matter how much she had planned, she could never be prepared for what life has in store for her.
One of the reasons why I liked this book so much, and thereby my reason to it deserving 5 stars, is especially the characters.
Alex is a well-developed character and I can relate to her. This book gives a unique insight in Alex's thoughts and emotions and I feel like I know her now.
Skipping the formalities and telling information such as last names and just taking the reader's hand and letting us into Alex's mind is one of the great things this book does.
We do not need to know about Alex's favourite colour or her last name. We are welcomed into her life like we were a childhood friend of her's.
This book is truly amazing, and I can do nothing but recommend it forever and ever.
I am definitely going to reread this one soon.
