Yumi and the Nightmare Painter by Brandon Sanderson

4.0

I loved a lot of this story, but I'm conflicted about the ending. The relationships were great. Hoid & Design were wonderful and I hope to see more of them. I also quite enjoyed the worldbuilding and the philosophical musings about art; even though I'm not sure I agreed with all of Sanderson's conclusions, I think they're valuable because they make me consider my ideas with great care.

The overall point of the story felt very self-deterministic, however, as if what we want to be true/right/good is so simply by our decision. I can't get behind that. So this is probably a very good 3.5 stars rounded up.
