Angel Catbird, Volume 1 by Margaret Atwood

2.0

Campy, silly, and purposefully so. Atwood tosses in as many cat puns as possible. It patterns itself strongly after early American comics with pacing, tone, and plot structure, and it's clear Atwood is using these all lovingly. But it's just not my jam. I kinda wish it were. I really have no negative comments other than this is the kind of stuff I've avoided in comics because I've not enjoyed it, and this appears true even when it's an homage, and I can see Atwood is poking at deeper things of Feeledus' tripled identity (man, cat, bird), but through this traditional comics lens, and using all its tools. I just never liked those tools. In anyone's hands, they feel kinda like using a hammer when what you need is a 7mm hex wrench and socket, and maybe some thread lock after.
