The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
3.0
When a young unknown reporter named Monique is contacted by aging and reclusive Hollywood movie star Evelyn Hugo to write her tell all biography Monique is more than stunned. Why her? Why now? Summoned to Evelyn’s luxurious apartment Monique listens as Evelyn unfolds her life story. Ambitious, cutthroat, heartbreaking and a beautiful love story in the middle of it all. As Monique begins to connect to Evelyn she worries whether her own life will survive Evelyn’s haunting tale.
At its heart this was a beautiful and heartbreaking love story. The glamour, the allure, the drama, all of it was mesmerizing. TJR is a masterful story teller and really knows how to pull a reader in with her signature style.
I enjoyed the old Hollywood vibes and the fascination with celebrity life. The references to known and made up movies, known and made up celebrities, along with a glimpse into Hollywood life was a perfect cocktail.
Evelyn was one of the most layered characters I’ve read in awhile. A glimpse into the struggles of racism and orientation were heavy hitting and touching. A beautiful story with a beautiful message. This book means a lot to people and I hope it continues to touch more and more readers.
A mixture of over hype, too similar to Daisy Jones, and having lost me in the middle a bit, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo lands at 3✨ for me. Thank you for buddy reading with me @trissinalovesbooks!
