Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

5.0

“You hating me always meant more than anyone else in this hot and stupid universe loving me. At least I’d had your full attention.”

“She wants the D," I said. And "The D stands for dead.”

Harrowhark Nonagesimus has reached Lyctorhood and is now in the presence of the Emperor, God, the King Undying, our Resurrector, the Necrolord Prime! She has been drafted to fight an unwinnable war. Side-by-side with a detested rival, Harrow must perfect her skills and become an angel of undeath. Sealed in the gothic gloom of the Emperor's Mithraeum with three unfriendly teachers, they are hunted by the mad ghost of a murdered planet. At the same time, we get to see Harrow's memories of the events from the first book at Cannan House, but something... is wrong.

I usually don't like reviewing sequels because I don't want to spoil the first book, but this time I HAVE SO MANY THOUGHTS AND THINGS TO SAY.

And I won't spoil the first book because of reasons that you'll understand when you read this one
