This was a nice, enjoyable read. It opened very strong, with the gallows marriage and intervention from a god. I was instantly hooked. It didn’t take me many more pages to fall in love with the characters. Lorali was so strong and kind hearted, and I loved her self confidence. However, she also had amazing character development learning that she was more than her powers and her faith. As for Eldric, he was so compelling with his complicated past and inner turmoil. I loved Lorali and Eldric together, and how they became friends through their bond, and they had very strong romantic chemistry. However, as much as I loved the characters I struggled a bit with the plot. It was very fast paced, and I found the ending in particular to be rushed. I also struggled with the lack of world and magic building. The fantasy elements held so much promise and I wanted to understand them better. I also never understood the political system that was guiding the plot. So overall I enjoyed this book and recommend it, but it didn’t quite meet my expectations.
