Rivet Your Readers with Deep Point of View by Jill Elizabeth Nelson
informative
4.0
This was really helpful for learning about shallow vs deep pov! I liked the worksheets, although I felt like some of the examples on them didn't really need changing. I learned a lot about third person deep pov but I wish there'd been more on first person since that's how I prefer to write, but that's not to say the third person info doesn't easily translate to first. Some of the writing style wasn't meant for me, specifically the "if/if only" and all of the questions. I don't care for "if/if only" because it feels a little melodramatic imho, and the questions feel like a fourth wall break. Like if the character said their thoughts out loud verbatim to someone, including the question, the person they're talking to would feel like they had to answer. So asking questions feels to me like talking to the reader, which I don't really like, but it was suggested as a solution pretty often.
Overall though this book is an excellent resource, especially for new authors trying to find their voice. I'll be referring to this for sure. :)
