The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
4.0
“‘Most of all, I hate you because I think of you. Often. It’s disgusting, and I can’t stop.’”
Trigger/Content warnings may be considered spoilers about certain themes or plot twists in the story.
TW/CW: Death of parents; Blood; Murder; Kidnapping; Stockholm syndrome (it’s arguable the characters suffer from Stockholm); Child Abuse; Slavery; Cheating; Racism
Jude and her sisters were ripped away from the human world after their parents are murdered. In Faerie, they are looked down upon for being mortal. Prince Cardan, youngest of the high court, is stuck on making her life miserable. After ten years of trying to fit in, Jude begins to defy Prince Cardan in order to earn her place at the Court.
This was such a magical story. I stayed up way later than I should have just to finish it. Jude is a heroine who defies anyone who tells her no. I found the writing itself to be utterly enchanting and the plot was truly spellbinding. Once I picked it up I truly could not put it down. I am so excited to continue this journey with Jude and Cardan. The only thing preventing a fifth star is nothing really happened that made me think “wow, this will stick with me for a long time.”
