Beach Read by Emily Henry
3.0
A cute story that is more about writing than anything else. It gets a bit preachy about genres at times (understandably, I suppose - the derision that critics reserve for so-called chick lit is very sexist). I didn’t get the sense of electric chemistry between the two MCs that I felt in Book Lovers and People We Meet on Vacation, but there was still some good chemistry. She avoided the third act breakup and most miscommunication tropes, which I appreciated.
I’ll admit to being thoroughly confused about the title of the book, since most of it is spend in the cold and rain, and neither of them end up writing a “beach read.”
I also personally am not into the emaciated white lady who eats nothing but macaroni and drinks a handle of gin a day and is still so perfect! trope.
