i feel like i should rate this very famous book by a very famous author much higher. On one level it is the story of a man who gets on a bus in what is hell or purgatory and goes to heaven. While there he meets many people who are examples of the grace, love and kindness needed to get to heaven. It is a simple and inspiring tale on one level but on the other it references Milton, Dante, Pilgrims Progress, Julian of Norwich- I know enough to know the references but am unable to pull up enough knowledge from my reading 40 years ago to make the book as meaningful as it could be. Still it is beautifully written and its message is clear even without the references. I’m thinking Lewis invented Narnia for children some years after this to convey the same messages
