Kingsbane by Claire Legrand
3.0
Too matured to be labeled as YA!
Considering the unexpected s*x (yes, many for a YA book and not fade to black) and emotional ab*se here, I'm surprised I still rated this at 3. It's possibly because of how I enjoy Legrand's writing and world building.
The characters that I initially fell in love with drastically changed as the story progresses, and even though I personally didn't like it, it doesn't mean that the story was bad. I understand that this is Rielle's origin story of how she came to be, what she went through... but she is just bad.
Audric's the only sane person here. The one who remains as good, pure, and selfless, despite the pain and trauma he went through as the world literally burns around him.
Taking that into consideration, Kingsbane is still a good emotional sequel to Furyborn. It has the same action, grit, magic that helped me to finish it til the end.
