Drawn & Quarterly Showcase: Book Four: Book Four by

4.0

A really solid collection of three quality comics. You often don't really know what you're going to get in this kind of showcase collection, but I really enjoyed the entire thing.

The showcase starts with a comic about what it means to be an artist and an art student, by one of my faves, Gabrielle Bell. Next is an exceptional supernaturally-influenced story about a group of Filipino-Americans that experience a brush with the supernatural one summer. Martin Cendreda's art is crisp and effectively stylized, with good use of colour. Finally Dan Zettwoch tells the story of a historic flood in Louisville in the 1930s. The colour palette and drawing style add an appropriate retro feel and the subject matter is interesting, even if the story does move a little slowly.
