Stargazing by Jen Wang

Moon becomes Christine's unexpected neighbor and friend in a middle school story with plenty of high highs and low lows. While Moon's being raised by a single mom and isn't very Asian in the way Christine knows, she's a breath of fresh air. Christine learns about K-pop, nail polish, dancing, and begins to consider Moon a very close friend indeed. But when a popular girl at school also befriends Moon, Christine's jealousy leads her to do something out of character. At the same time, Moon's sometimes odd behavior is suddenly explained - she has a brain tumor. What will happen to two BFFs who now face a very serious challenge? Jen Wang strikes again with a story that speaks very fundamental truths about being a young middle schooler and what the true meaning of friendship can look like for two girls with very different life experiences. A graphic novel to pass along to your own friends, and savor.
