I Am Still Alive by Kate Alice Marshall

I thoroughly enjoyed this one--but I'm not sure it's for everyone.

The book starts off very fast and intense. The main character Jess has just seen her father killed and their cabin (which is in the VERY middle of nowhere Canadian woods) burned down. Save for her father's dog, she's all alone, winter is coming, and she's injured. No one is coming to rescue her. What follows is her survival and revenge story, initially told by alternating "before" and "after" segments that slowly just meld into the present.

I loved the survival aspect...her finding shelter, food, fire, ect. However, I think that some may find it a bit repetitive at times, and wish that the book would just move on to what happens next.

It's a fast read (I greedily read through it, dying to know how it was going to end).
