Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers

I really tried my best with this one.
I'm not really into romance, but the last time I tried to read a book centered primarily on a romance plot was... at least 5 years ago. The cover just really caught my eye and so I went for it while it was on sale. I did enjoy the read well enough but it just fell flat for me. I'm not sure if this is because I still am not really into romance... or if it is more on the book itself. It is an overall solid debut novel that I enjoyed but certainly didn't grip me in any particular way.
*spoilers*This book had some solid components to it. However there just were too many small things that added up to make the read more awkward/stilted than I hoped it would be. I like the main character, but her struggles and characteristics just seem to have the exact same few phrases paraphrased over and over several times per chapter. I like each of the characters she meets/has in her life. But with every single one having to be very pointedly quirky... they all start to fade into feeling the same and feeling disingenuous and un-interesting. I get her hardship, but with how flowery the language is and how much things are brushed over it felt difficult to ever really connect with the basic plot that was given. As I said, these could be things that just rub me wrong as I have a hard time connecting with romance-centered plots. But I feel it is a strong possibility that the author was just doing a little to much with too little.
