I think this might be an unpopular opinion but I just didn’t vibe with this book! You might and that’s fine, all different tastes!
I think the thing that first turned me off was the constant repetition of certain phrases or ideas. I swear if I read one more time how beautiful her sisters were and how plain faced she was I was going to going to start screaming!! And that’s not even the only repetition it was a lot of her thinking about her hand “slipping between her thighs” or mentions of “breasts” or her “coiled belly”. It just was very noticeable to me and detracted from my enjoyment.
I also didn’t connect with any of the characters. The sisters had absolutely no personality other than their given trait of “mean” or “smart” and both “beautiful” ofc can’t forget “beautiful”. They never really went past that. Same with the papa, Sevas, and even Marlinchen. I just don’t think any were fully fledged out and I wasn’t particularly attached to any.
With the plot…. Idk what the plot was? I mean you get to about a little over halfway I believe when the actual story of Sevas arriving to the garden for the competition comes into play. I try not to look into the synopsis too much with a book as I like to be surprised but gosh I was getting so bored.
I liked the dark fairytale vibes! The writing style wasn’t for me, personally. I think this will be good for people who love fairytales and I’m sure the audience is there. It just wasn’t for me, personally.
