A brilliant work of tragedy translated equally brilliantly. The character of Tatiana is a stunning one, and the influence of Western authors on Pushkin is obvious even if there is a unique cultural character to the poem as well. Don Juan-inspired in some ways, but totally different and seemingly earnest in what it presents, rather than a cutting satire.
