Not as good as Pet, but still a very enjoyable read centred around revolution and the very real, very human, and hardly talked about aspect of being scared of actively taking part in it. Self preservation vs the movement. I personally think this book should’ve been longer, though… I think the discussion around morality and the right way to bring about justice was great but definitely should’ve been fleshed out more (especially amongst the members of the Assata). Unlike Pet, this novel is a lot less intimate in its scope. We’re not just dealing with a single family, we’re dealing with a school, a radical group and the entire wider community and I think all of that would’ve been better explored in a longer novel… it would’ve been nice to get more of a taste of the world.
