Brenda Storm: Finding Amelia Earheart by Michael E. Coones

5.0

I grew up enjoying the Indiana Jones movies and this book brought back all of the nostalgia. Brenda is a strong heroine who's still overcoming grief from her past--I was pleasantly surprised by how well-written her personality was, despite being written by a male author. The interactions between her and her team members, as well as the young boy who secured their camel transportation, made me smile. Brenda's present-time adventure blended well with flashbacks of Amelia Earheart's flight, and the way the two were intertwined with the stakes growing higher and higher as the book came to a conclusion was really well done.
The book had recurring Christian themes, but as an agnostic, I highly enjoyed it. The story was inclusive, depicting plenty of atheist and Muslim characters too. While the book was reminiscent of the Indiana Jones archaeology action/adventure series, it had its own unique flavour. Looking forward to reading more by this author.
