Dear God. Dear Bones. Dear Yellow. by Noor Hindi
5.0
Noor Hindi’s debut collection of poetry tackles various subjects such as loneliness, fitting in and her intersecting identities.
She writes using metaphors as is so often seen in poetry but predominantly speaks bluntly through the written word.
It was refreshing to see a collection of poems that addressed so many different subjects in this (not so) paradoxical way.
Noor Hindi’s voice is unique in the way in which it blends journalism and lyrical prose. I have never read poetry that weaves headlines and breaking news so effortlessly into its stanzas.
The result was poems that were equally gut wrenching as they were eye-opening.
I finished this collection and I found myself thanking Noor Hindi for sharing her words. For being unapologetic in her rightful anger against injustices that have been around for far too long. For talking about so many topics that society shies away from.
This is a collection of poetry that you urge everyone to read and to learn from. To re-read and understand better over time, after continued learning and more importantly, unlearning.
