So glad I didn't put this to the side when I was a bit puzzled by the beginning a few days back but instead gave it another shot after a few days.
What puzzled me was the 'typical DnD fantasy novel' beginning whilst I was promised, and thus expected, a cosy coffee shop book. It got there, eventually, I first stopped at exactly the wrong chapter but after I picked it back up again it totally delivered.
This book is a cosy comfort read about a bunch of misfits who come together, one way or the other, to follow their dreams and support each other on the way. It's not only cosy but also quite sentimental, I had the get the tissues out a few times, and surprisingly deep, if you're willing to look past the cosy surface of the story and actually think about what you just read.
It's definitely the cosy fantasy gem the hype makes it out to be. So many lovely characters. So much storytelling that hits close to home (for me at least). So much coffee. So many delicious baked goods. So many relatable moments.
It's one of those books I know I will definitely read more than once in my lifetime.
And no, it's neither 'pointless' nor 'boring', nor solely about 'queer romance' (that's ~5% of the story). Despite what some 'reviews' claim; some evidently have a few troubles when it comes to understanding what they read. Or they write reviews about - and leave ratings for - books they never actually read themselves, who knows...
