Interesting premise to begin with, but quickly became a slog for me as I realised we weren't going anywhere with all these story threads. Most of the characters felt really flat, and the language of this translation really didn't capture me at all. For Tokyo at night, I didn't really get that feeling that the city is its own entity in the way that a lot of Japanese literature evokes. There was no soul to the night. The book also felt much longer than its page count, and that is not a compliment. Ending very unsatisfying and anticlimactic given some of the reveals. I wanted all of our disparate characters to come together after following their various threads, and they didn't really have that moment. Would have DNFd if the book was any longer.
