As a deaf sensitivity reader, this series shows that the author was simply inspired by the idea of Deaf. While not knowing a single aspect of being Deaf. Deaf people, Deaf culture. Etc. This is why you should always have a sensitivity reader. Are the characters in this story only a mirror for the authors own ableism? Shoko can’t go to Tokyo cause she’s Deaf?
Or dreaming about what shoko would be like if she was hearing and spoke clearly. The wishful thinking and negative remarks on her ability as a Deaf person are truly sad.
