Goodness. I did not except this book to make me cry. I should have guessed from plot points in the first third of the book, but I was living in delulu land instead. Clementine is so real and multifaceted, I feel like I could run into her tomorrow and not be at all surprised. Her grief is so poignant and the way she views Ewan throughout most of the book is incredibly relatable. Her character arc is beautifully written and paced. Ewan himself is also much more three dimensional than anticipated. I would have loved to see his POV, too, but I understand the journey Clementine was on was a bit deeper as the reader is brought along with her. I'm honestly really sad that this is the end of our journey with those two. While a lot has come together for them, I have no doubt there's still a lot of growing and mending that can happen between the two of them and with their families. brb going to go see if Ashley Poston has posted any extended epilogues.
Overall, the SEVEN YEAR SLIP is an incredibly heartwarming and heart-wrenching book that will take you apart and put you back together. The time jumps are seamlessly integrated with the current time and Clementine's relationships unfold in exciting ways. I highly recommend this read!
TROPES: Second chance romance vaguely?, strangers to friends to lovers, time travel, publicist x chef
FMC: Clementine/Lemon - closed off from love, grieving, hardworking and focused, artistic, adventurous
MMC: Ewan/James - dedicated, a bit insecure/seeking validation, striving to be the best, flirty, personable, open to new experiences
INTIMACY: Not closed door, but not explicit; more kissing and sensation than literal descriptions
