A Deadly Vow by J.D. Ronan

5.0

This book drops you right in the middle of the action so I had to read a bit slower to get my bearings. It took me a few chapters before I finally got a grasp on things and what was happening. Once our characters and setting were clear I opened myself up more to the story itself.

As the blurb states, this is a slow burn romance. Nothing about it is in your face and I think that makes the character development more enjoyable.

This is a true high fantasy. I've yet to come across a high fantasy worth reading by an indie author and Ronan knocks it out of the park with A Deadly Vow. Keahi is undoubtedly my favorite character in this series. While he is still deadly and fierce, it was his softer side that got to me. This is a character I don't read often and he was executed perfectly.

The twist at the end is what really did it for me, learning more about Sabine was fascinating and badass. I cannot get my hands on the next book fast enough.
