Hell Followed with Us by Andrew Joseph White

4.0

This book was an experiencing to read let me tell you. It was heart wrenching, horrifying, powerful, and beautiful all at once. To read a book with so many queer characters felt like the first time I went to an event surrounded by fellow queer people and the joy I felt and the never ending "You're like me!" After being closeted for so long. Which feels weird to say despite how dark this book is but it's the truth. I felt torn apart and seen through this all through Benji's story. From the feeling of finally being surrounded by queer people like you. To the hurt and pain caused by the religion you grew up in. Andrew Joseph White is an absolutely stunning author and I'm so glad I read this book.

I think my only two complaints with this book is that one I wish Nick and Benji's relationship was a little more fleshed out. It didn't seem like he got to see a lot of their development on the page and their change of feelings seemed very sudden. I think this is mostly because we don't get a lot of POV chapters from Nick's POV. Though what little we do see of their relationship I love.
I also felt like the ending was missing something. I think it mostly felt rushed but other than that I think this is an incredible book. I'll definitely be reading his new book when it's released.
