The Codex by Douglas Preston

3.0

There’s probably a good 80-100 pages that can be trimmed off that would make this book a more exciting read. The middle portion felt endless, and I could only take so many descriptions of jungles, plants, forests, swamps, lakes, etc. before my eyes glazed over. I felt that the built up confrontation between the villain and our characters was rushed & underwhelming. There are also certain subplots/characters that just feel abandoned and end very abruptly.

Overall, I enjoyed this concept, but felt that another edit/pass through of this manuscript was needed!
