Protagonists need flaws. Sorry - being too honest and honorable and occasionally lying to save yourself or someone you love doesn't count. Xingyin stayed pretty much exactly the same throughout the whole book except she got ridiculously good at archery and magic very quickly (I'll allow that) but without any real struggle (kind of annoying). Love interest was fine but not very interesting. I did appreciate the lack of any miscommunication trope, but at the same time there was almost no tension when characters argued... Not sure how to fix that but it was boring lol.
