The Employees by Olga Ravn

a book that begs to be read aloud. the structure, the style, the flow! the unwinding of the bare facts and context of the situation on the six thousand ship amidst the dreamy prose was done in a way that was so appealing to me.

the ending really knocked it out of the park for me. something i admire about this book is how intentional and maximized the ordering of the statements are. it reminds me of a really excellent poetry collection and keeps a tight grip on the build of the conflict…

much here about personhood and where it gets nebulous. there is a tender and pained focus on the relationship to work and the relationships to the people you work with that to me rings wonderfully with carol vs the end of the world. the way everything about new discovery made me ache… humanoids seeing themselves within the objects, a life that defies categorization but is indisputably alive.
