Her Soul to Take by Harley Laroux

3.0

I read this with a book club, and while it was slow getting started, I did begin to enjoy it once the main characters met. It had the instant attraction that I sometimes get tired of, but I liked how the author gave it more depth. I wish there were more character development of the main characters separately than together, especially for Rae. I was far more invested in the small-town curse plotline than the relationship between the characters. Also spicy, very spicy.

Abelaum is a tiny town where everyone knows everyone, like where I grew up. I was able to relate a lot to that. Being from a woodsy area, the setting was clear to me from the beginning. I also love a college setting. The small town is central to a mystery of murder, disappearing students, and a sketchy mine accident. It turns out there's a whole cult. I loved it!

I'm ready for Zane's story after reading the second book.
