A long time ago I read Ill Wind by Rachel Caine and loved the concept of magic that helped keep weather or natural disasters like wildfires in check. This immediately checked all my boxes at first glance and then went above and beyond as I read. One of the things I liked about this the most is it's conversation about climate change within the text and how it's not too late for something to be done about it - even without magic in the real world, that's an important message to have. That aside, the interpersonal relationships between the characters was great and I loved all of them, even when there was conflict or there was a character I didn't particularly like involved. The writing was just that good. I think this will be one I'll revisit in the future, as I loved the worldbuilding so much.
