I took my time reading this book because it's the last in the series and you can only read a book for the first time once. I wanted to savor as much time as possible with Maya, Ana, Amat, Bobo, Peter, Kira, and Benji -- especially Benji -- and with all the new, rich characters. The Winners is an incredible conclusion to an incredible series.
Backman doesn't like to use foreshadowing in his writing, he tells you straightforwardly what will happen, and yet you're still punched in the gut when the inevitable comes. I haven't decided if this is the greatest or cruelest part of his writing style. But he delivers the news with great care and compassion. You can feel the love he has put into his characters. I can't wait to see what story he gifts to us next.
