Bridge of Clay by Markus Zusak
Did not finish book.
What. The fuck. Was Zusak doing. For TEN YEARS?
Seriously?
I'm all for quirky and whatnot but this book is downright confusing? There's no plot and quite frankly it is BORING. I mean, I got 47% through it and all that happened was a brother training for something and getting beat up, the boys living in a house with no parents but a mule?? talk of a murderer?? completely non-chronological storytelling with the narrator even saying "oh we haven't got to this part yet" and also switching from talking about the brothers (mostly clay) to the parents and how they met. In fact, the parents parts were the most intriguing. At least they were going somewhere? But what the actual fuck was going on? Clay, the brother that gets beat up and his brothers profit on bets on, is quiet and weird and then goes to build a literal fucking bridge with his dad/a murderer?? And the narrator, the oldest brother who honestly I can't remember the name of because there's five of these dudes and they are as 2 dimensional as fuck, is going to beat the shit out of him for going? I assume the dad is the reason the mum isn't in the picture any more but apigdunapinbp;ijnbgpsifjnao[ I don't even care. There's being suspenseful to keep us reading and then there's writing a whole load of shit and getting away with it because your name is on the best modern classic of the last decade and I am not here for that.
