Stranger to the Moon by Evelio Rosero
3.75
In this house live the Naked, separate from the Clothed that roam outside. The Naked each have two sexes, and shall be tortured by the Clothed the moment they step inside. Nothing remains of their history but the cemetery behind the house. A group of people fuelled only by hunger, most of the Naked focus only on their next meal, but our narrator instead questions the position of the Naked.
This book explores house as prison, and the forging of identity in the face of a loss of cultural memory, which feels particularly poignant today.
