3 stars — I know I read in the back that it was based on a play, but I didn’t realize there was also a novel. Perhaps that format would be better. Unfortunately, while the art was wonderful, the story felt short and was lacking emotion and connection. It also read younger than I had been expecting.

I just found I didn’t care about any of the characters, or what they were going through. Tiffany does not come across sympathetic necessarily. I did love the grandma though.

One of the things that bothered me was the way the mental health issues were dealt with, and perhaps that’s where it being too short really burned it. I guess it fits with the time it was written, where people didn’t quite understand depression and such, and so it felt like it was a bit trivialized. Kind of a bummer, but I’m also sensitive to it.

So yeah. Not my fave. But I’m also not a graphic novel reader, so not sure if that might have helped?
