DNF at 12%. I tried. For my younger self. But I couldn't do it. The girl I was in 2015 thought this book sounded super interesting. It was right up my alley. Or...I thought it was. Because truth be told, I'm not even sure if I'd have liked this back then either. If this book had come out when I was in middle school, then I think I'd have devoured this book. But unfortunately, reading this now had me bored, with a slow build. I didn't care about any of the characters, the tropes, the small town atmosphere. I tried. I wanted to like this, for my younger self. It's been on my TBR since its release. But I know myself, and I know that I'm one mediocre book away from another bad reading slump. These days, I value the time I spend reading books, and I make sure they're damn good ones. I can't say whether or not this is, objectively, a well written book or a bad one. But what I CAN say, subjectively, is that it's absolutely not for me. I hope someone else likes it though.
