The Horse and His Boy by C.S. Lewis

2.0

Oof, I lied on my review of the last Narnia book. This one is my least favorite... for a number of reasons. The primary reason being that I cannot get over the blatant racism and derogatory descriptions of the Calormen in this novel. Throughout the series, Lewis' misogyny and colonial mindset have been hinted at, but I tried to take them with a grain of salt given his historical context. But this book is on another level. I will not be reading this installment again, but even aside from that, the plot is interesting until the last few chapters of the book, at which point it becomes more of a roster of plot points than a real plot.

And don't even get me started on the portrayal of Aslan in this book. As far as allegories go, this one missed the mark.
