The Gates of Europe shows Ukraine's history from the 1880s to 2015.
With the current war happening in Ukraine I wanted to learn more about the country and see what its history was. This book gave a brief glance at Ukraine's history and how important it has been for Europe as a whole.
I didn't realize how important and how involved Ukraine was throughout history in Europe both politically and socially when it came to history. I do think this is a great starting point for starting to learn about Ukraine and its history as it goes from its first existence, through the empire ages and into modern-day as well to explain a little bit about what led to the current war that Russia has started and why they started it and are trying to claim land that is not there's.
I do want to read more by this author in the future as they explained history well and made it not so overwhelming to be learning about a completely different country that I knew very little about.
