A Kiss for a Kiss by Helena Hunting
5.0
Soooooooooooo to say I was excited about this book release is an understatement! I will happily read anything Helena Hunting writes and when I met Jake and Hanna in King and Queenie’s book I just knew I needed their story too. The connection between Jake and Hanna is strong and palpable. They’ve both been through something similar, having been teen parents but it was interesting to see how differently they navigated that time in their lives.
Hanna always struggled with the choice she made to allow her son to be raised as her brother. It seemed like the right thing to do at that point in her life but it is so heartbreaking to see how part of her regretted that decision. I understand why her parents suggested it but I also felt like her mother went a little too far. Hanna is a better person than I am in that regard because I did not like her mother at all. Once Hanna confronted the feelings she had about everything between herself, her parents, and Ryan she was able to open up to Jake more and give their relationship a chance.
Jake really had a hard time reconciling his past with his present when Hanna announced her pregnancy. It’s logical that he would automatically worry that things would turn out bad, like the way they did with his daughter Queenie’s mother. His reaction made my heart ache a little but the level of angst was just the right amount given the circumstances. I loved that Jake was willing to talk everything out and could finally see Hannas side of things. I super loved that Hanna did not take his shitty attitude and walked away until he got it together. One of my favorite things in a Helena Hunting book is how strong her female characters are and this book did not disappoint in that department.
The All In series is one of my favorites and the first three books are slightly different from this one but it’s understandable given the subject matter. I loved Hanna and Jake. I loved Hanna’s relationship with with Ryan and Jakes relationship with Queenie, as well as Hannas relationship with Queenie. It was so fun to see more of the characters I’ve loved in previous books. It is always like visiting with old friends when a series continues. I know some of the subject matter in this one can be triggering for some, since there is mention of miscarriage so heads up if that isn’t something you want to read. Otherwise I highly recommend A Kiss for a Kiss!
