This had the main ingredient of stories I dislike: multiple characters and POVs. But Yaa Gyasi is a phenomenal writer. Every story hit me deeply. By the 2nd or 3rd page of each new chapter I was completely invested in the new character. There were many moments she brought tears to my eyes, but it was never emotional manipulation. I am so glad I read this!
