General Comments: A tragic tale; narrated in a compelling mix of Straight Narrative, Haiku, and Free Verse poems. A haunting and powerful novel of courage and survival, with an ultimate redemption that leaves one with a sense of hope. Full-page illustrations enhance the impressions and emotions aroused throughout the story, based on Japanese brush and ink techniques. A part of History we must not forget.
